Rodney Slater and Mary Schapiro have joined Mitre Corp. as members of the company’s board of trustees.
Slater is a former secretary of the Transportation Department and Schapiro most recently served as chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Mitre said Monday.
“Their knowledge and experience will serve Mitre well in overseeing the seven federally funded research and development centers that we operate,” said Alfred Grasso, Mitre president and CEO.
Slater is a partner at Patton Boggs, where he is responsible for policy and transportation objectives, which covers aviation competition and congestion mitigation, maritime efforts, high-speed rail corridor development and transportation safety.
He served as director of the Federal Highway Administration before he became the transportation secretary.
Schapiro is also a board member at General Electric and London Stock Exchange Group, vice chair of Promontory Financial Group’s advisory board, vice chair of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board and a governing board member of the Center for Audit Quality.
